What is the monthly energy output of a 4 kW system?
The chart below is based on the average monthly energy output of a south facing garden with a roof angle of 40 degrees. As you can imagine, the amount of sunlight does vary across the UK, as does the pitch / direction of each roof, as well as shading from trees etc. This can be assessed and discussed with the installer at the time of your survey.
This would give an annual output of 3,500 kWh. According to Ofgem a medium 2-3 bedroom house with 2-3 people has a typical annual electricity use of 2,900 kWh. Of course any excess can be fed back into the grid via the Smart Export Gurantee (SEG).
Solar is a great idea for several reasons:
UK Govt incentives: ECO 4 grants, the Smart Export Guarantee (SEG) & 0% VAT are currently available. These help offset the initial cost of solar & make it an attractive investment.
Environmental benefits: Generating electricity from solar panels is a clean and sustainable way to power your home or business. It does not produce any harmful emissions, helps to reduce your carbon footprint and contributes to a more sustainable future.
Plenty of sunlight: Despite its reputation for cloudy weather, the UK receives a significant amount of sunlight each year. Therefore solar panels can be an effective way to generate electricity in the UK, even during the winter months.
Protection against rising prices: Energy prices rise on a regular basis and are dependent on a lot of external factors. Generating your own electricity and storing the excess, can protect you against future increases in energy costs.
Energy storage: Solar batteries allow for the storage of excess solar energy generated during the day for use at night or during power outages. Thus increasing the efficiency of the solar panels by reducing energy waste and maximising the use of stored solar energy
Increased property value: An energy efficient and sustainable home or business can be particularly attractive to potential buyers who are looking for eco-friendly properties.
Durability & low maintenance: Solar panels require some basic maintenance such as cleaning and monitoring, but overall they are a low-maintenance energy solution. Solar panels will last decades with little maintenance required.
